Tisch can be a useful heat shield to satisfy the boys in blue with her rhetoric, but Mamdani's directives (for calm and humor) need to prevale ... against the right-wing insurrection-mongers ...
She's just a rich piece of shit, thinks that she deserves to have the job she got because of her last name, and is alarmed that the Epstein Class might suddenly be answerable to the laws they use as a cudgel to keep the little people in line while the rich take what they want.
“Today it is snowballs. Tomorrow it could be rocks, bottles, or worse.”
Why would snowballs be a precursor to rocks, bottles or worse? People have had plenty of chances over the many decades to throw all kinds of things at cops. But suddenly there's a kabal of snowball terrorists? Give me a damn break. People on the Right turn into pussies whenever they are pushed in any way.
The people who started hyperventilating over a snowball fight should get a life. This shows the true paranoia of the powerful. The slightest disorder, the most insignificant messiness of life, sends them into a panic. Having power does not result in a peace of mind. They sleep with night lights and teddy bears. As an old country song says of the rich and powerful, "not one in ten has a satisfied mind."
Great take Ken. Have you considered researching & writing some articles about some of the over top performative law enforcement that goes on constantly in the United States? Especially with "perp walks" and execution of search warrants? Some examples:
In Los Angeles Wednesday the FBI "executed search warrants" against the superintendent of our school district, Alberto Carvahlo. The scene looked straight out of "Dark Knight Rises" when Commissioner Gordon raids all the mob banks in Gothem.
The FBI clearly tipped off local news media, everything is "under seal" so no one knows what the superintendent is accused of, and now the district cannot make any decisions or handle its business. What reporting we get suggests a really minor event where the superintendent may have cooperated with a failed tech start-up on educational software. Does that justify all this drama?
Roger Stone's arrest in January of 2019. Again, the FBI tips off local media and sends scads of kitted up armed agents into Stone's house at the break of dawn. He was accused (& convicted of) perjury. The U.S. Attorney's office could have sent Stone & his lawyer a letter ordering Stone to appear in federal court on a certain at a certain time and I would bet $100 against $20 that Stone would have shown up.
There are numerous other examples of this. Anytime someone criticizes this police behavior police respond by labeling the person as unconcerned about public safety.
All parties need to cool it. Sick of all the hot takes (from all sides, except in this case not from the smirking boy mayor), and grateful for Ken not going there.
Not very sloppy, dishonest, or an exaggeration when:
- several of the world's most prominent fascist scholars (including Snyder, Paxton, and Stanley) have explicitly applied the fascist label to this administration and some have left the country.
- scholars that disagree tend to disagree on the ideological requirements for fascism (i.e., "they are doing fascist things, but they don't claim to be fascist")
- the federal government murders two citizens in broad daylight from multiple recorded angles and no one is held accountable
- citizens are being detained and deported without due process
- legal residents are being detained and deported without due process
- undocumented people are being detained and deported *without due process*
- the government is actively creating more detention centers in and outside of the U.S. and transporting people to them, where multiple people are getting sick and dying
- the government is murdering over 100 people in missile strikes in the Caribbean with no evidence to support their claims of "terrorism" (which already is a flimsy designation created by our government)
- the government is actively creating domestic terrorist lists made up of activists and legal observers and surveilling them
- conducting a snatch-and-grab coup operation in Venezuela
- actively supporting a genocide in Gaza (according to essentially every human rights organization on the planet, as well as the ICC and ICJ) and endorsing a "Greater Israel" strategy of conquest of the Middle East
- preparing ICE and supporters to influence elections
- attempting to pass voter ID laws (through the SAVE act) that would effectively limit hundreds of thousands of voters from voting
- attempting a coup on January 6, 2021 (have people forgot?)
It seems like every time somebody even uses the word "fascist", there are people everywhere to claim that they're using it casually or sloppily. It's not just mud slinging. All one needs to do is refer to the 14 Characteristics of Fascism and they'll be able to see that Trump and the rest of his regime embody every one of those 14 characteristics.
Yeah, it's actually hilarious that Tom Burns brought up the 14 characteristics of fascism as a defense... I read them and thought "yup! This administration checks every box!" Not a great argument on his part lol
I am not a right winger and not being pedantic. Ask yourself if the 14 characteristics of fascism apply to the Uniparty whether it has been Rs or Ds in power:
Powerful and Continuing Nationalism – Constant use of patriotic symbols, slogans, songs, and flags.
Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights – Tolerance or approval of torture, summary executions, and long imprisonments due to perceived security needs.
Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause – Rallying the population against perceived threats like minorities, liberals, communists, or terrorists.
Supremacy of the Military – Excessive military funding and glamorization of soldiers, even amid domestic crises.
Rampant Sexism – Male-dominated governments, rigid gender roles, suppression of abortion, homosexuality, and anti-feminist policies.
Controlled Mass Media – Direct or indirect government control, censorship, and manipulation of information.
Obsession with National Security – Use of fear to justify authoritarian measures and suppress dissent.
Religion and Government are Intertwined – Use of religious rhetoric to legitimize state power, even when actions contradict religious teachings.
Corporate Power is Protected – Close alliance between government and business elites, creating a mutually beneficial power structure.
Labor Power is Suppressed – Elimination or severe restriction of labor unions as a threat to regime control.
Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts – Censorship of academia, suppression of free expression in literature and art.
Obsession with Crime and Punishment – Police given unlimited power, civil liberties sacrificed in the name of patriotism.
Rampant Cronyism and Corruption – Friends and associates appointed to power, misuse of national resources, lack of accountability.
Fraudulent Elections – Manipulation through media control, voter suppression, gerrymandering, and judicial interference.
Due process has been removed for decades (remember Waco?). Swap gender ideology used to justify child mutilation for the tendentiously framed rampant sexism characteristic.
My point is that what you call fascism could be applied to all of the uniparty by those opposing each instance. You dilute the meaning of the term by applying it so religiously, but I am a free speech absolutist, so feel free!
I just wrote a multi-pairagraph reply and got kicked out of substack before I could send it. I'm not going through all that again. I will just say that I totally disagree that there is a uniparty committing all of the characteristics of fascism. Today it is the Right wing who is OVERTLY committing every single characteristic. For example, overtly blaming everyone on the list of scapegoats (immigrants, queer people, non-white ethnic groups, "antifa" (which does not exist) for every ill in this country and also pushing for America to be a "Christian nation". Having right wing billing there's take over every major news media outlet. These are all REPUBLICAN initiatives today.
School was closed due to a snow day in Newton, Kansas. For some excitement some young boys went to the local police station and challenged the police to a snowball fight. The police agreed. Both sides had fun.
Tisch can be a useful heat shield to satisfy the boys in blue with her rhetoric, but Mamdani's directives (for calm and humor) need to prevale ... against the right-wing insurrection-mongers ...
*prevail*
You'd think they'd be more okay with snowballs considering what snowflakes they all are.
Ha.
You understand all of you that now it seems 'snowballs' are a weapon!
I came here to say this
Uh huh. The radical extremist is the only one who can react normally. Great reporting on the source of the instigation of this fun, Ken, thanks.
How about firing Jessica Tisch? She clearly is paranoid and delusional, or just got her panties in a bunch 😂
She's just a rich piece of shit, thinks that she deserves to have the job she got because of her last name, and is alarmed that the Epstein Class might suddenly be answerable to the laws they use as a cudgel to keep the little people in line while the rich take what they want.
I won't trust Mamdani until he fires her.

The right is full of snowflakes projecting snowflake-ness on everyone else. Can't handle a snowball? Can't handle...
- Colin Kaepernick kneeling
- Bud Light having one small ad from a trans influencer
- people saying "happy holidays"
- people burning the flag
- ...and the list continues

Heavens above........are the NYPD now afraid of snowballs?
Chickens.

(Right-wing) pigs gotta squeal . . . .
Perfect take, thank you
All parties need to cool it. Sick of all the hot takes (from all sides, except in this case not from the smirking boy mayor), and grateful for Ken not going there.
"both the fascists and those that oppose them need to cool it!"
Cooling it means not to throw the word fascist around sloppily or dishonestly

Excellent Michael.............when are the US people going to wake up?
Is it when Trump decides no elections or is it when so many people realise their is absolutely NO HOPE?

No, no: you can be more precise, Rip, and say "pedants and right-wing slime".
Who controls the USA?
100% correct Rip Price.

I would say that most, if not all, also apply to the Dems (definitely 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, and 13)
Yep! Those are all checked off by this admin!

Oh what fun....!
Bloviated? That’s got to be at least a .75 word.
Really? I thought it was a normal one lol. This stings cuz I try to avoid fancy words
3 syllables max Ken. People can bloviate but not in the past tense.
Pardon me, but you are not the gatekeeper of polysyllabic words! 😆
I thought the word is actually: Bliovated but I don't come from the US!
