Military calls it “a show of presence”? Hardly. It’s a show of force, designed to intimidate and kill, if the situation requires. That’s what you learn how to do in the military- kill people. That’s why until Trump’s presidency the military understood, with few exceptions, that they were not to operate in the United States.
I participated in protests in Downtown Los Angeles back in June. Agree completely there was zero need for the Guard and even less need for the Marines. They just stood around mostly behind fences. I will say the guardsmen I saw were very professional, especially when some brain dead protesters decided to shout at them from 3 feet away as they just stood still.
The LAPD is really skilled at opening up a can o’ whoop @$$ on someone who crosses a line. It’s scary that today’s reactionary racists are no longer satisfied with a Rodney King style beat down. They want uniformed soldiers shooting at people.
We all know this deployment was illegal, Ken, and those poor soldiers having to break the rules because their so called Commander broke the rules is heartbreaking.
At this level, I'm worried at the retaliation they may endure at the hands of the orange felon in chief.
I'm so angry that Republicans keep allowing this madman to do his thing.

Why do I get a strong “I was just following orders” vibe from that Sargent?
Everyday we're living through Andor

Sounds like fun interviews. The troops are great, and they seem nice.
