Thank you for specifically calling out Eric Swalwell and his inane videos. Congressional Democrats, with their approval rating of a whopping 19 percent, seem to believe that they are not permitted to work because Mike Johnson called a recess (which they take every summer). But I suspect they wouldn’t have anything to say about US nuclear proliferation even if they were sitting in the House chamber. They’re too busy fuming at Trump about the Epstein Files, which they could have had released four years ago.

We’re screwed.

Thank you Ken again.............I knew about this deployment to UK.

I doubt that the people here in France even care/all they do is shrug their shoulders and go and eat their medieval food. I am disgusted.

IF 'little UK and the great European masses' want to fight a war against Russia they need to start thinking who actually won the 1st and 2nd WW's. It wasn't the Americans it was Russia.

Having said this I wonder what is in the EU drinking water in Brussels?

I love this earth but it is time for the end. of humanity. Nature will survive.

These twats have no idea that nuclear war ends us. After Reagan was elected, an anti-nuke movement still existed. Now there is nothing. I blame so many, not least of all Obama, Clinton, and the rest of the democratic military fucks.

I understand your points and do not generally argue with your rationale.

I would push back a bit on your characterization that this is strictly a phenomenon of the monumentally dysfunctional Trump Admin and Hegseth specifically.

This type of action would not be entirely inconsistent with “Old School” NATO philosophy and practices. Granted, there should always be a healthy degree of skepticism regarding the current administration’s motivations (how much is Show, how much is Go).

Unfortunately, the Starmer / McSweeney comedy team are also in the market for some major distractions as their ruling coalition falls apart, so we’re kinda flying “doubly blind” regarding actual motivations of either group.

I’m going to guess MOST of this is messaging. As things get more active and pre-positioned, it is appropriate to be more concerned regarding an action being misinterpreted. Accidents occur easily and are difficult to walk back in Real Time.

My argument is that these movements do not indicate a huge shift in force stance and posture. These are just visible shifts likely meant to convey a message to both friend and foe.

Targeting packages and locations of SSBNs change all the time in response to geopolitical issues. You guys are just unaware of those as they’re essentially invisible.

Don’t view these ops as an imminent sign of conflict.

I agree but hegseth and trump are the only civilian oversight of the armed forces we have so the failure to at the very least apply transparency here is theirs IMO

If we had a bunch of time, I’d go through the “Yes, but…” arguments of how the Military / DoD actually runs, but so far as public facing civilian control: Trump and Hegseth are indeed relevant.

All the best.

I think nuclear war is inevitable, though what the specific trigger will be for it can't be known. The problem is one that is inherent in humanity, that those who gain power are the ones to crave it, long to exercise it over others and they forget about the mass of humanity whose welfare they should protect, regardless of whether people are "us" or "them"

What weapon has, once deployed, never been used? Nuclear weapons are armed and ready to go with a travel time of 30 minutes or less. The number of countries that possess nuclear weapons will not shrink as none will voluntarily give them up.

Look to Iran to see why, subject as they are to attack by Israel at any time with a nuclear threat behind it, that country might want to join the club. Not to say that adding one more country to the club would be good as it would only raise the chances of nuclear conflict, but North Korea shows the (temporary) freedom nuclear weapons can bring from the dictates of a superpower.

We wait for Armageddon doing our best to pretend it will not come. Leaders, in particular those of the US, toy with confrontation believing they are in complete control. This variety of insanity began with the smiling and genial Reagan, but it would be so with the leadership of any empire.

Is there anything that we ordinary people not obsessed with power can do to prevent nuclear war. There isn't. We are riding a train with no access to the engine or engineer, and the train is always putting on speed. Nuclear weapons cannot be un-invented or eliminated as no country, not even the US, has the power to make that happen, not even with tiny and completely US dependent Israel. Above all the US would never yield its ace.

What to do? Be oblivious. Join Trump in declaring global warming a hoax. What's the point of trying to save the environment if in the not very long term we are going to be cooked atomically before nuclear winter takes care of any warming along with much of life on Earth?

Love your kids, be glad that you have been spared so far in your life and hope nothing happens before you are gone so that you won't witness The Event. Above all stay busy and avoid thinking about reality. Possibly buy a Jeep Wrangler and see how many little plastic bathtub toys you can put at the bottom of the windshield...stuff like that. And don't forget your favorite professional sports teams!
