Chinese have made major investments into Mexico, including highways and other infrastructures. The other stuff is “fluff”. I am concerned about the violation of Mexico’s sovereignty. What about civilian casualties due to mistaken identity. This is why I subscribe! Excellent reporting, keep us informed.

Remember the lyric: WAR, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!

I suggest an addition: POWER, what is it good for? Abuse!

Dear powerful American politicians and military leaders - how about ending the War on Drugs instead of planning operations in Mexico and who knows how many other countries?

That achieved, a second priority should be ending the CIA, so deeply involved in dirty operations for all of the decades of its existence. If power corrupts, power that is secretly exercised corrupts the most.

You took the words out of my mouth, Clif. I was writing the same response until I read yours.

The CIA infuriates me. What is the point of the separation of powers among the three branches of government when there is effectively a fourth branch that does whatever the executive branch dreams up and operates in total secrecy?

We know from investigations into CIA activities that it is unrestrained and that the "safeguards" that are enacted do nothing to restrain it. Bring in the cover-all of "national security" and we the people are completely shut out not just from control but from even knowing what is going on at any given moment.

How could we ever proclaim liberty and justice for all after the CIA was created in 1947, when we actively subvert it around the globe in the name of empire? But as we saw with George H W Bush, being CIA director is no impediment to going on to the White House.

Yesterday while I was demonstrating for the Palestinians on a streetcorner here in the US, a Zionist came up to me to voice approval of the atrocities that Israel is committing. I replied very simply: liberty and justice for all. To which he responded, "but that is here in the United States"

Insanity - liberty and justice here and full support for ethnic cleansing by Israel. Could there be greater hypocrisy? Yet we have many dual citizens with Israel! This guy was speaking with a straight face and went on to tell me all will be well for the Palestinians when they get rid of Hamas. He could well have been speaking for the CIA where morality is checked at the door.

We have to get back our country and the 2026 midterms will be make-or-break time. Trumpism is eagerly flushing all that is good about our country right down the drain with Congress going along. Trump might as well put on the uniform of an officer of the Confederacy, with plenty of gold braid of course.

Thank you as always, Ken. Just what the country needs: a war with Mexico. And apparently a war with Venezuela. I repeat for the bazillionth time, we are screwed.

Minor error, I think: Mexico is not a member of the G7.

Mexico is a member of the G20, however. I think that was intended.
