Leaked Cables Show Biden Admin Opposes Palestinian Statehood
The White House is quietly pressuring UN member nations to oppose Palestinian membership ahead of the UN meeting tomorrow
Below are two U.S. diplomatic cables I obtained exposing the Biden administration’s efforts to prevent Palestine from being granted member status at the United Nations — even as the White House continues to tout its support for a two-state solution.
I’m making these available exclusively on my newsletter, so thanks to everyone who’s a paying subscriber (please consider becoming one if you aren’t already!)
The first cable, sent from the U.S. Embassy in Quito, Ecuador, describes the country’s foreign minister having “agreed with our position…not to support any UN Security Council Resolution recommending the admission of ‘Palestine’ as a UN member state.” Ecuador’s foreign minister said that she would instruct their UN ambassador to lobby several other countries not to support such a resolution.
The second cable, sent from Secretary of State Antony Blinken, contains detailed U.S. talking points arguing for opposing the UN resolution for Palestinian statehood.

The second cable is hilarious. It starts off with stuff like "we've always been the best at this whole peace in the middle east thing and you'd be making it hard for us to continue being the best" then ramps up to "imagine the implications, the consequences, the backlash, wow" and finally ends with "we're literally going to cut funding to the UN and it's gonna be extreamely bad for everyone"... International relation is so sad. It's like talking to your abusive partner who always asks nicely but in the same breath can't help themself but to threaten you.
Damn. That's a big scoop, dude..
