This is very aggressive and very fast. They are working to make any form of protest into a federal crime, and to reorient all national and local "law enforcement" around crushing it. The cash reward system and calls for citizens to inform on their neighbors should be terrifying to anyone with the slightest grasp of history.
I still believe their real targets are not so much the street protestors (which they believe they can mop up over time through extreme violence) but scaring away any foundations or rich people from backing any organization even remotely critical of the administration (hence the repeated references to tax law).
Not just protesters. Anyone who says mean things about America, capitalism, or Christianity, or anyone who is supportive of trans rights. Over half the country would be caught in that net!
I strongly oppose the trump administration and their actions, which are largely lawless and devoid of reason beyond nationalistic fears stoked by racism and greed.
"Bondi directs the FBI to enhance ... its tipline in order to more aggressively solicit tips from the American public on, well, other Americans. To that end, Bondi also directs the FBI to establish “a cash reward system” for information leading to identification and arrest of leadership figures within these purported domestic terrorist organizations."
Given the broad ideological criteria for a "domestic terrorist" (or "Enemy of the State"), and the consolidation of various government and private databases that undoubtedly took place under DOGE (which I think was actually its primary purpose), this all sounds much like the STASI in former East Germany. But the technology is much better now.
I wonder how long it will be before you come under suspicion simply for having purchased or watched various movies that are classified as "subversive". If that isn't already happening...
And I think I will push out even further my likelihood of ever travelling to the USA again.
"this all sounds much like the STASI in former East Germany. But the technology is much better now."
You are hitting on an incredibly important point. Counting on a large mass of citizens to report on the others has always been a weakness of authoritarianism. But I think they truly believe they can use electronic surveillance and AI to have a relatively few people monitor everyone at all time, and fundamentally change this dynamic. They may be right.
In passing, this is also the dream of the ultrawealthy. In the past, the ultra wealthy were always still dependent on servants, and so had to maintain some connection to humanity. Now. They plausibly hope that AI and robots can provide everything, and they can fully divorce themselves from the human species. They may be right. And that is the real singularity, not artificial intelligence.
Good point. The kleptocracy may have jumped the gun however. The tech lordlings have sold the "roadmap" of robotics and AI not actual capabilities. Do agree with you that there is hope that technology can protect wealth and safety at scale. Hopefully the bugs are features of freedom. Though case studies like China show even unreliable surveillance and broken AI "policing" are effective control.
Do any of ya'll remember COINTELPRO used against the Civil Rights & Anti War movement? Same thing just being implemented by Keystone racists/facists against everybody
Our government did this under Joseph McCarthy with Roy Cohn’s help in the 1950’s. And, as someone mentioned above, with CIA and FBI throughout the 1960’s. We incarcerated the Japanese at Manzinar and other camps in WWII. We have targeted the public again and again and still people have the courage to protest, resist and risk everything for the truth. Somehow we will live through this madness and find a way to make this nation live by the Constitution. It may take decades, but we will not tolerate this insanity.
“NSPM-7 was signed in September largely in response to the murder of Charlie Kirk, which was a 9/11-type event for the Trump administration, as I’ve reported. (Kirk’s assassination is referenced explicitly in the Justice Department memo.) As anyone who lived through 9/11 can remember, the government doesn’t always think rationally in moments like those, to say the least. And so here we are, with a new War on Terrorism — only this time, millions of Americans like you and I could be the target.
I’d posit this administration is thinking extremely rationally when it comes to Kirk and NSPM-7. In fact, making domestic terrorism a crime is the entire point.
Moreover, as chaotic and unpredictable as these people operate most of time; this is not one of those times!
According to MAGA, White Nationalist Christians are the victims, not unlike Trump, who is their retribution.
Additionally, when Kirk was assassinated, they immediately silenced all dissent. They used his memorial to demonize democrats and liberals. Thousands of people were fired from their jobs for speaking ill of this man. Then they lionized and panegyrized the man; making him a 21st century version of MLK Jr., which is the point. A moment of silence was demanded at NFL games. Flags stood at half mast; although we can’t say the same for the child victims of any school shootings! Not to mention, they raised billions off of his death.
Furthermore, they continually want to make memorials of this martyred saint, and use his assassination as an excuse to elevate a non existent domestic terror group called ANTIFA and their apparent sister organizations based on some “left-wing radical trans ideology.”
What they’re trying to do is create a White Nationalist movement and intertwine it was American patriotism. So if you’re against Kirk and his ideas, then you must hate America!🇺🇸
Of course, white supremacy is fine, since they are the victims of these imaginary groups (immigrants, liberals, etc…), who have been poisoning the blood of their children, and diluting and erasing their white Christian heritage; you know, the heritage that this country was apparently founded on?
Bottom line, Kirk’s death, the new War on Drugs, masked man terrorizing communities, and sending troops to blue cities are all part of the master plan to take complete control over federal, state and local police forces to install their fascist regime everywhere.
Just remember, when Nixon originally created the DEA, it was t because we had a major drug problem in this country, it was a way to arrest all of the hippies, put them in jail and take away their vote; there was no distinction between getting arrested for buying two marijuana joints or ten pounds, the sentence was the same (trafficking).
Why do you think marijuana was made a schedule 1 drug? It certainly wasn’t based on the science.
Bottom line, just like with Nixon, and what Bush did with the War on Terror after 9/11,; the federal government throws unlimited dollars to police departments willing to commit lots of bodies to their cause. And this is how they get local police departments to become local proxies of their depraved agenda. IMHO…:)
Well great . . . I guess we common folk . . . that is citizens, have a choice of functioning either as terrorists or bounty hunters. What a wonderful life. When is the next protest march? I'm ready.
Have considered the every increasing security functions as some sort of bullshit jobs a la David Graeber. It kinda echos East Germany where much of the population spied on each others. Think Noem and her ilk personify the dress up in uniforms and badges (to belong) get resources (flashy military kit) and power over the other.
The puppy killer and her pals should have been shown the door at the outset. We now have an overload of incompetents and, as a result, highly dangerous operatives in very high places.
I took some solace in the incompetence until I considered all the resources the kleptocracy is concentrating in friendly billionaires and the militarized police force and the tech bro powered surveillance state.
Mr. Klippenstein, several months ago I emailed you with an idea that I was considering and asked for your opinion: As a retired 27-year veteran of Homeland Security (specifically U.S Customs and Border Protection, prior Immigration and Naturalization Service) I was considering gathering up all my paraphernalia (badges, certificates of training completion, awards, etc.) and returning them to Homeland Security in protest of recent actions and policies of the department, particularly ICE and US Customs and Border Protection) toward immigrants and others. I did just that. I included a letter to Secretary Noem explaining my position, i.e. I could no longer retain them with any pride or satisfaction. It was also some small penance for anything I may have done to harm anyone coming to this country simply to seek a better life. AlI asked for was your opinion of its efficacy or possible consequences. I think I was maybe hoping you might be interested and that might somewhat amplify the protest. I got no response. But that is OK. No response was needed. What I did I did because I needed to speak up whether or not anyone heard me, not you, not Kristi Noem, perhaps no one beyond the mail sorter at Mailstop 0525. Given the fascist tendencies of the Trump government, I was a bit afraid - I have never done any such thing. Indeed, a couple of weeks later I received a donation solicitation from a Palestinian relief organization which arrived open (didn’t look accidental). So I may be on someone’s sh*t list, a position I am actually thankful for (although I may feel differently if the men in the dark suits show up - I’m no hero). I don’t doubt I’m on some “naughty” list and your article makes me doubly wary. But I am thankful for you and your reporting. I want to take this opportunity to encourage you to continue. You are a far more conspicuous target than I.
Thanks for your protest Robert. Bet you feel good that you expressed yourself.
You said: "What I did I did because I needed to speak up whether or not anyone heard me, not you, not Kristi Noem, perhaps no one beyond the mail sorter at Mailstop 0525."
Anyone remember Nixon’s “enemies list?” Most people were proud to be on it; I feel the same way about being on the list of the mental patient occupying the White House.

I'm already on the Dunce Kennedy's autism registry, I was in February, I think.
I'll save the feds some time.
I strongly oppose the trump administration and their actions, which are largely lawless and devoid of reason beyond nationalistic fears stoked by racism and greed.
And misogyny.

Public Enemy #1. Ms Rachel.
actually, antisemitism and anti Islam is not listed. only anti Christian

Roy Cohen is kinda a through line with the current and past nonsense. I like your optimism.

Is it (just) irrational behavior or has it been planned by the Project 2025 nuts who were waiting for the right opportunity? I'm guessing it's both.
"Rational" or not, it's intentional.
Jesus fuck. My god this really scares me.
Charlie Kirk's *suspicious* murder = Reichstag Fire. NSPM-7 = Reichstag Fire Decree
Thank God they are so incompetent. Thank you for the coverage, Mr Klippenstein.
Incompetent at most things, sure, but they've shown a real knack for murdering innocent people. So don't downplay the danger here to your own peril.
I took some solace in the incompetence until I considered all the resources the kleptocracy is concentrating in friendly billionaires and the militarized police force and the tech bro powered surveillance state.

YES - well said.
Bondi and Patel should be at the head of the list. Anyone notice Gabbard has disappeared?
Anyone remember Nixon’s “enemies list?” Most people were proud to be on it; I feel the same way about being on the list of the mental patient occupying the White House.
Hello Trump COINTELPRO.
No doubt it will work spectacularly well at roping in innocent citizens.
