The ICE Agent who killed Ms. Good should be arrested and prosecuted for murder. He should be held without bail, just like anyone else who is accused of murdering a defenseless woman in broad daylight.
Yes, I remember the little twerp, being so cocky after he was not prosecuted for killing 2 men and shooting a third. He went to Kenosha with the idea that he could behave like a cop.
He's become a "prominent conservative commentator" since his 2021 acquittal. He makes me want to vomit!
Thanks for writing about this, especially so fast after it happened. I don’t know the woman who was killed, but living so near to where it happened hasn’t been fun. All the video footage I’ve seen makes it pretty clear she wasn’t trying to run over anyone, but the spin saying otherwise from the administration and its supporters has been pretty disgusting. Hope you keep writing about future developments on it!
“Signed last September following the murder of Charlie Kirk, NSPM-7 directs the federal government to focus on rooting out domestic terrorism. The directive singles out violence against ICE in particular as a leading domestic terror threat.”
This is ludicrous! How can this NSPM even be legal? Where are the lawsuits?
When the FBI wanted to label white nationalists a domestic terrorist group, a Republican Congress wouldn’t allow it, claiming only Congress has that power. Now we have a president who can conjure up a manufactured terrorist organization with impunity? WTF????
Doesn’t it just fry you? Just consider the POWER of the words on Substack if they’d targeted our elected representatives and their media stooges. Don’t USA babies grow up to be self-serving victims?
I’m waiting for a 6th nonresponse from my state revenue secretary about our illegal anti-BDS (non)statute, need write a 3rd request to our state press association looking sold out to corporate funders, and my public radio station manager (ditto on the selling out but not so much his fault as the board’s) about what they’re reporting and what they’re NOT reporting and how they’re reporting. Going to a political meeting tomorrow night to scope out the county position.
Rump's lies about all of this need to be called out, loud and clear. Thanks, Ken, for including his asinine social media post, he cannot deny what he said about an ICE officer being injured in hospitalized, which is complete BS. We have all seen the video, she attempts to drive away and an officer shoots her with his gun about 3 ft away from her car, he was in no danger whatsoever, nor was anyone else. If there had been anyone in front of her car, they would have been killed or badly injured when she was killed at the wheel. So sad, senseless and illegal.
Less conspiratorially: Y'all be careful out there. If you watched this video from Minneapolis, it's pretty clear the woman was either trying to back out of her driveway, or she encountered some strange scene with (some) masked (some) non-uniformed gunmen suddenly surrounding her and demanding her exit her vehicle, and she tried to turn her vehicle around to get away. She was summarily executed.
Keep this scenario in mind when you contemplate your next trip to the gym, grocery store or Home Depot, or when you are driving down your otherwise quiet suburban street where un-publicized "targeted ICE raids" may be occurring. Your first instinct is to GTFO ASAP. But keep your head on a swivel from now on because another non-uniformed masked un-trained newly minted ICE goon may be standing just out of sight and your vehicle may be just slightly heading in their general direction as you try to exit the area. Bang bang bang bang bang bang.
Another angle on the shooting appears to show the woman trying to wave oncoming vehicles by so that she can proceed safely away in icy road conditions.
One wonders what implications this holds in "Stand Your Ground" states. Many of which are Republican Trump supporter governed. I'm sure there are lots of conservative or even liberal gun owners who will sooner open fire on some masked lunatic with no identifying markers* wielding a weapon running at them than try to flee; then what happens? I suspect the state government will pay off and/or threaten the victim's family to get them to hush up.
This is a far more fucked-up situation than most of the media is portraying (as KK points out above). A lot of people naturally panic in situations like that. I wonder how my own wife would react. This "center" cannot hold for much longer - can the Democrats grow a collective spine and do something to stop it? One is skeptical.
* And frankly what difference does having "ICE" on a windbreaker or hoodie even make now? There are already reports of fake ICE agents using this tactic in attempted robberies and kidnappings.
To be fair, I was speaking in general terms for the most part. These guys in Minneapolis today were wearing uniforms and most were not masked. The way they went about corralling the woman driver, however, was completely unprofessional and it was clear that she was trying to turn around and waving oncoming traffic by first to be more safe. The truck that eventually stopped was unmarked with a light inside the rear of the cabin. She was waving them as many of us have done when we want the other driver to pass first. I find it very hard to believe that she knew the unmarked beige Ford truck was actually ICE.
This is similar to the October incident in Chicago when Border Patrol claimed a woman had tried to hit them with her car, one agent shot her five times-bragged about it, and she was charged with a federal felony. By some miracle she survived and the US Attorney dropped the charges against her in November
Trump lies literally every time he opens his mouth, so it cannot be surprising that he's lying about this. Even so, the video is easily available for everyone to view and it obviously refutes everything Trump said. That woman was not trying to run anyone over, she was trying to drive away. No Ice agent even came close to being struck by her vehicle and none were in any acute danger of being hit. The agent calmly drew his gun from the holster on his hip, aimed and fired at her through the front windshield at point blank range. The vehicle continued forward after he shot the driver and it hit nobody. They'll probably get away with it, but this was murder, plain and simple.
There was absolutely no reason for that agent to shoot Ms Good. I watched the video several times. Clearly she was trying to leave the area. My God, how could anyone even think she was a threat? I know millions of people join me in my outrage. Yes, I will take to the streets if need be. This must stop!!!
Agree. I had a conversation with my wife earlier, and she's very much a left-leaning rational and informed person. Her first take was "well cops have been out of control for a long time now and they always shoot first." I was like "Did you see the video, and are you aware of this new "domestic terror" executive order thing?" The guy who shot her was clearly never in danger, and he took several head shots as she was already clearly passing him by. Trump came out on his stupid social media platform saying that the "officer" was recovering in the hospital. Say what? The videos clearly show him just casually walking toward the crash after the car hit the telephone pole. Is he being treated for "PTSD" or a stubbed pinky toe? If only the mainstream media would ASK.
“I want to ask is where the hell Congress is amid all of this — but what’s even the point anymore? They clearly don’t care enough to do anything.”
I’ve asked the same question for at least two years. Yesterday, several Democratic senators voted to confirm one of Trump’s latest appointees. Among the usual suspects, e.g., Fetterman, was Ruben Gallego. I have vague memories (read sarcasm) of his being the bright new light in the party.
I laugh sardonically when people say, “Trump can’t do that. It’s against international/domestic law”. Have these people lived in a cave? Trump has pushed the boundaries of the law his entire adult life without consequences. With an impotent Congress and a corrupt judiciary, he will not stop. ICE will continue to terrorize the country, but they have a presidential directive on their side.
I used to watch C-SPAN frequently and couldn’t believe what went on in the House. An example: Just a day before a shutdowns loomed, they spent hours debating the fate of an obscure bat.
It’s horribly disheartening, but not surprising that Congress has abdicated. Most members care only about being reelected. And lining their pockets.
As a Pennsylvanian, I have no representation in the Senate. I predicted that Fetterman would be horrible, but he conned thousands of people with his grubby gym clothes into believing that he was one of them. He’s a trust fund baby.
1) Surprised this hadn't occurred long ago, of course only a matter of time.
2) What else is just a matter of time, when ICE/DHS/NSA/FBI/whoever else starts rounding up all males 16 and above in a given community, then selects every 10th one or so for execution, in retribution for the wholly justified killing of an ICE agent, just as the Gestapo did?
3) No doubt Netanyahu and the Hasbara unit in the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs (aka Propaganda), as well as AIPAC, are lending moral(?) and p.r. support to Trump.
“And how we burned in the camps later, thinking: What would things have been like if every Security operative, when he went out at night to make an arrest, had been uncertain whether he would return alive and had to say good-bye to his family? Or if, during periods of mass arrests, as for example in Leningrad, when they arrested a quarter of the entire city, people had not simply sat there in their lairs, paling with terror at every bang of the downstairs door and at every step on the staircase, but had understood they had nothing left to lose and had boldly set up in the downstairs hall an ambush of half a dozen people with axes, hammers, pokers, or whatever else was at hand?... The Organs would very quickly have suffered a shortage of officers and transport and, notwithstanding all of Stalin's thirst, the cursed machine would have ground to a halt! If...if...We didn't love freedom enough. And even more – we had no awareness of the real situation.... We purely and simply deserved everything that happened afterward.”
Will we all continue to gawp and gasp as the horrors mount? Or will we pick up the axe, the hammer, the poker, whatever else is at hand, and use our strength in numbers to stop this machine of death?
FWIW, The Gulag Archipelago shouldn't necessarily be taken as the gospel.
In her 1974 memoir, Sanya: My Life with Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn”…, she wrote that she was ”perplexed” that the West had accepted ”The Gulag Archipelago” as ”the solemn, ultimate truth,” saying its significance had been ”overestimated and wrongly appraised.”
Pointing out that the book’s subtitle is ”An Experiment in Literary Investigation,” she said that her husband did not regard the work as ”historical research, or scientific research.” She contended that it was, rather, a collection of ”camp folklore,” containing ”raw material” which her husband was planning to use in his future productions.”
Nevertheless, the main point in the Solzhenitsyn quote you cited stands on its own. Even if it wasn't completely true, such things start to become relevant to the immediate threats we face.
The ICE Agent who killed Ms. Good should be arrested and prosecuted for murder. He should be held without bail, just like anyone else who is accused of murdering a defenseless woman in broad daylight.
Rather than being arrested and tried for murder, the ICE agent will probably get a promotion and an award for going beyond the call of duty.
Or hundreds of thousands of dollars on GoFundMe and a book tour.

States need to act, Minnesota should prosecute all of the masked thugs involved under state laws.
Everything is horrible

They’ve been looking for any reason to fire a shot. They’ll probably send the goon squad out tonight to start a “riot”

Time to re-examine 9/11, perhaps?

What are you doing?
Well yes what about real law enforcement when you need it?
American cities are the new West Bank, and ICE the reincarnation of the Sturmabteilung (SA) led by our Goebbels wannabe Steven Miller.

I noticed the officer's behavior after he fired his weapon....feels premeditated

This is all so terrifying and I can't imagine what the woman's family is going through.

I’m living in hell.
Am so disheartened by Congress's abdication.

It's not exactly new.
His admin is basically running on breaking laws.
Along with Fetterman you have this asshole Dem from Texas named Henry Cuellar. But that's a whole different can of worms.
As a Pennsylvanian, I have no representation in the Senate. I predicted that Fetterman would be horrible, but he conned thousands of people with his grubby gym clothes into believing that he was one of them. He’s a trust fund baby.
Cuellar is another nightmare.
Trust fund baby Israel-firster who kissed the wall and really enjoyed his all expense paid trip to the Levant. It is simply amazing.
Words don’t describe how much I loathe him. I pleaded with people not to vote for him, and the same people are now complaining.

As an alternative to Gulag, and a much shorter read, is his "One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich"
