I have the experience in both the DOD Active Duty and Civ Contractor in Iraq to verify that Platner’s an opportunistic bullshitter. I would also, given the fact that the DNC hierarchy does everything possible to annihilate any voices Left of the McKinsey class, fully support Platner over any of the GOP / Schumer preferred alternatives.

We’re not in our current predicament because the GOP are geniuses, but because the Dems consistently offer crap Status Quo candidates assuming that the public will choose that option over the monster that the GOP is offering. How’s that working out, Chuck?

So the Democratic Party would rather lose to Susan Collins than win with Dan Platner? Wouldn’t surprise me a bit, the old farts (I’m 78 btw) at the DNC have to retain control no matter what.

yes, exactly

Death (by natural causes) can’t come soon enough for a lot of people.

I don't care about Platner's "scandals." what I do care about is whether or not he's a non-mainstream styled "progressive" - think Fetterman or Sinema - who'll turn into a full-on conserva-dem as soon as some Republican daddy starts being nice to him. He just doesn't have enough political priors to rule out that possibility.

I’m 15 years sober, a well educated member of my community, and every year reminds me that if I tried to run for office I would be destroyed before I even got out the gate. Imperfections are not allowed in candidates, even if they believe in nothing but their own right to power.

I don’t care if Platner is messaging whoever what I DO care about is that he was doing it in 2024, on the run up for his campaign announcement in 2025. So you couldn’t put your dick away for one year just to not have a scandal? That is what I don’t understand, maybe you’re conflicted about your commitment to your wife, but not your multi million dollar long shot campaign!

You do have to take into consideration his PTSD...look it has been a long journey for me, and I never sexted anyone...you come home angry, full of testosterone, and it crowds out the goodness....not an excuse, but, one has to see he is more than that...I am hoping he had VA PTSD help.

Everybody's got imperfections, it's just been weaponized lately. Politics is so toxic, I don't see why any "normal/regular" person would run. We're screwed, like Ken said, you pick who they nominated and certain voters vote straight line Democrat

I recall a drawn cartoon on the cover of the New Yorker magazine during the first term of Trump. It showed him running interference on the football field and getting all the attention. Meanwhile the snap is over there..."hike."

This style of politician who knows what a salad fork is, is the same thing. They don't care that we have no money for food or healthcare, and fear being picked up and held indefinitely with no charge. Platner does.

The people who endorse Platner, are the best ones in Congress: Warren, Bernie and Rashida. That's good enough for me.

I like to eat with my hands.

I'm a paid subscriber who is not leaving as a result of this post, but I do feel like the subtext of you captioning the photos of Collins and Mills with this: "Susan Collins and Janet Mills would never be embroiled in a sexting scandal (too much integrity?)" is that you're saying that no one would want to sext with these two people because they're old, unattractive women. If that's what is happening here, I do think that's gross of you.

Anonymous Naysayer's avatar

Yeah, he assumes no one would ever want to have sex with an older woman. Maybe they just aren't dumb enough for it to turn into a scandal.

These women are ancient, not just old

You made my day Ken! I hope Mainers go for Platner over Collins but that's entirely up to them. Clearly they didn't want the DNC pick. If those of us who are older haven't figured it out yet, turning the government over to those who are raising kids so they can create a future for them involves letting them dress and speak as their gen does. Although I really hope no one does as bad a job of clothing himself as Fetterman does. A civil job should carry some decent kind of wardrobe, regardless of what it covers!

I remember a time when a reporter would never be crass enough to ask about a candidate's religion, let alone their sex life...

A person has to be 25 to run for Congress and 30 to run for the Senate--but needs only a pulse to stay in office until death or defeat. I'm a lively 82, but I couldn't resume the job--with the energy and the creativity and the focus-- that I had when I was 65. We need to stop talking about term limits and start talking about age limits. Simply because we're devoting so much research and cash into extending our physical lifespans doesn't mean our mental capacity is extended. I was going to say something else, but I forgot what it was. Nap time.

I have to wonder what AIPAC had to do with this. Also so sick of men in the public eye who cannot fkn behave.

Not a Platner fan. To me, Platner seems morally worse than average. I don't think it's too much to ask not to have a nazi tattoo or to refrain from posting lewd things. But, still, I hope he wins because I want the Democrats to win the Senate.

Cathleen Labate's avatar

I hope Platner wins....dumbass as he is....you described Collins perfectly....she sent me to Iraq, too! I signed up to protect the USA, not be used as a vanity embellisher...

Please oh please make Gavin Newsom go away. Thank you, Ken, for bringing him up. He has a boatload of people flummoxed, or at least misled. Also, thanks for your refreshing post.

Well, you’re not gonna lose this subscriber over this one. Kinda like what I paid for. Deft wielding of the linguistic stiletto. My entry in the contest? “Finally nudging Susan Collins off her tightrope.” A long-awaited splat! Decorum in politics - the right look, the right words, the right appearances (and non-appearances), the right stances (provided not too principled, aside from the principle of not saying, not doing what needs to be said, needs to be done). The result? The American experiment has failed. It’s been fun – for some – while it lasted.

But it ain’t really about smooth groins, it’s about corporate profits. Janet Mills doesn’t threaten them.
