Can I just point out how insane it is that congress is voluntarily ceding its own authority here

Ken Klippenstein's avatar

Like what do they even get out of this??

Plausible deniability is the only thing I can think of lol

Campaign funds, of course. Citizens United opened these floodgates for congressional…instead of corruption, let’s say regrettable incentives.

Not to repeat myself but:

1) Their stocks are blowing up.

2) Trump tax policy is making them rich, too!

The uniparty strikes again!

It's a fucking war- And Congress is full of mealy mouthed dipshits.

John Smith's avatar

Congress is just for show at this point, and that goes for Bernie Sanders as well. Plus, they don't want it on their permanent record like the Iraq War, which came back to bite them in the ass.

I know what we can call what the U.S. and Israel did over the weekend: assassination and murder.

JennyStokes's avatar

No it's war. If the same thing happened to America of course it would be war!

I have always thought of Trump and his administration as a bunch of gangsters. The way that they conduct warfare seals the deal. Wars now do not resemble Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now, or Platoon. They resemble the Godfather series of movies, and movies like Goodfellas. Our gangster nation states are now led by Capos who wack each other. It is international relations conducted by cartels waging war on each other for "spheres of influence."

Are you familiar with Sarah Kendyior's Substack? SHe's been

calling out the gangsters for quite some time. And she is an outstanding writer, as well.

I am a subscriber. She lives in St. Louis and I am from a town just south of there. Like her essays on Missouri, and just the general shit hole we are in right now. She is one of the best. Check out her books.

This graham guy lost any sense of backbone about 16 years ago. What a slippery eel.

For Lindsay Graham and anyone else to say this is not a war and label it something else is double-speak Orwellian bullshit propaganda. It’s also incredibly insulting to all the military and civilians and their families who have already lost their lives in this WAR!

We are rolling faster and faster down the slippery slope of state-sponsored and media-echoed propaganda. Which way is up?

Calling it Murder Inc has the right ring to it.

Heard tell Lovely Linsey checks whether he has a banana in his pocket or the United States is at war. Banana?

Aggressive war (bombing, cyber warfare, illegal sanctions, coups, color revolutions, etc.) will continue as long as capitalism does, because capitalism needs ever increasing "natural resources" that can only be obtained via treachery of some (or multiple) kinds. Despite what he calls himself, Bernie Sanders is capitalist through-and-through, therefore he's as dangerous a war whore in reality as anyone, including Lindsey Graham.

I'd like to see this regime (and the few to follow, if that many, before this country collapses) get more aligned with their Mafia similarities and use terms like "So-and-so sleeps with the fishes"; "Oh, Paulie, you won't see him anymore"; "He got rubbed out"; "We 'offed' him"; "Give 'im the 2-4-5 solution - two .45 cal. slugs to the head"; "You know, senator, I was a 'button' man, I'd push the button on a guy"; and stuff like that. More colorful and entertaining than all the strained talking points.

Insurance companies, surely, are going to pay for the stranded travelers, the cancelled trips, the aborted vacations? They won't? And the reason is that insurance policies explicitly exclude coverage for losses resulting from acts of war, including invasions, civil war, or insurrections. Is the US government going to force them to pay by forbidding them from calling it war?

JennyStokes's avatar

I imagine from Iran's point of view...........this is war.

StanleyTwoBrix's avatar

Don't forget Schumer desperately wants this war. Last summer he released a video literally called Trump a chicken for not bombing Iran.

The Democratic Leadership WANTS this. Their stocks in the military are doing great! And those GOP tax cuts make the blood money so much easier to spend.

People need to talk about this more - REPUBLICAN POLICY MAKES THE DEMOCRATIC LEADERSHIP RICH, TOO.

No wonder those policies never seem to be meaningfully rolled back.

Ak's avatar

This is also why the Dems like authoritarianism/fascism so much too. It's been great to their wallets so far, whether it's coming from them (like Biden directing covid money to domestic policing, etc.) or all-out with Trump. And they can point their fingers at Trump and get donations by saying, "don't you guys hate facsim; then give us your money!"

StanleyTwoBrix's avatar

It's not just that creeps like Obama refused to codify Roe V Wade because they could use it as a fund raising cudgel. The tax cuts cut their taxes! They are making more money directly - their stocks are going up! Their taxes are going down! Conflicts of interests are ignored!

For the crooked, it's a field day.

What a bunch of lily-livered, indecisive mugwumps. These are our elected leaders? It's more like Captain Kangaroo meets the three stooges. Nothing, NOTHING good can ever come out of it. I'm embarrassed and so, I believe, are the rest of you. Beam us up Scotty; there's no intelligent life down here.

Ken Klippenstein's avatar

Love that word “mugwump”

Pathocracy rules! (and they have no rules.)

Joy in HK fiFP's avatar

Kakistocracy is a small subset, and doesn't come close to covering the totality of what we are dealing with.
