There's a lot of firebrands whose riotous anger blinds them for the need to play chess.
If I had the power of Thanos to snap a finger and instantly create the Socialist Utopia, I would in a heartbeat...
But, you know reality.
Reality is there are a lot of very rich people who can pay for a bunch of thugs with guns to do things like obliterate nations - innocent civilians be damned.
We need to play Chess.
So far, it seems like Mamdani understands that. Hopefully he can have some success with social democratic public services that Copenhagen and Amsterdam are doing. Let that show people that modest taxation of the rich can effectively be applied to the improvement of the commons. Then move on the the next step... If we can do that, we can then tackle heath care...
I know that screams of incrementalism. It is.
The only other way is complete collapse and a period of dark ages which will lead to a great deal of death.
We may not be able to escape that in the long run, Florida will be under water regardless of what we do.
But maybe if we don't just say FUCK YOU to the existing power, they can be won over when the planetary shit really starts to hit the fan...
Trump is not a fascist and Mamdani is not a communist. Trump Derangement Syndrome and Mamdani Derangement Syndrome are not reflective of reality. Just ways to divide us while the billionaires get richer and richer.
Once Trump said they share goals I became suspicious.
The meeting was behind closed doors, we have no idea what was discussed and what goals they share.
Nothing will change for any of us. Why? Because the problem in the US, IS the two party system. He ran as a Democrat.. Trump a Republican and nothing will change in our favor.
And why would anyone believe a word that comes out of Trumps mouth?
I don't know whether to be pleased that Mamdani apparently rolled Trump or to be concerned about the stated willingness to work with ICE on serious crime. It's one thing for someone to be convicted of a violent crime, it's another for them to be accused of it in the first place...
I'm reserving all judgment about Mamdani until I see what he does in office. So far, from this leftist's point of view, what I see is not encouraging. He could end up being just another Obama. Give me Kshama Sawant any day!
Okay, here's Ms cynical. The whole thing seemed scripted to me. However, Trump isn't smart enough to pull it off and Mamdani wouldn't lower himself to do it. Nor would he compromise his principles for that piece of crap. So I remain cynical and will watch as this latest clown show plays out.
Let's put context to the amicable meeting between Mamdani and Trump, with emphasis on Trump.
If we agree that the number one domestic concern for Trump is his reelection, then the reason for Trump's change of mind on Mamdani becomes clear: the more Mamdani becomes successful in and out of New York, the greater will be the divide between the old blue and the new blue. Couple that with voting restrictions in 33 of our states and chances for a Republican victory in 2028 look promising, even if Trump loses the popular vote.
Great piece Ken. I hope he continues to impress
glad you liked it!

Oops.. I meant to write - righteous anger. But... we may need to join in riotous anger if the plane doesn't pull up.
Thanks Ken.

They did hint at what was said - sounds like there was discussion of crime and coordination with federal government on certain violent crimes

Kitman and Taqyya can take you far. Let's watch...
