The Justice Department is drawing up contingency plans to potentially intervene in next week’s midterm elections, three officials with knowledge of the discussions tell me.
The plans cover various “doomsday” scenarios seen as improbable but not impossible. The Trump administration has hinted at them publicly in recent weeks. National security officials tell me the hints reflect active discussions about what to do if the outcome is disputed over things like foreign interference, claims that noncitizens voted, or chaos at the polls.
