Im sorry you have to go through this, but know that there are a lot of people out there, myself included, that appreciate you continuing to stay true to journalism and trying to get the truth out there!
They are probably already subscribed. My only real question is how many & which other Substack journalists are they reading. I already sub to more than I can afford, but I would find the cash to support anybody else on that list!
Mr. Klippenstein, I'm a very longtime fan but also a poor. I subscribed to the Substack the moment you left The Intercept, as a freeloader. I have struggled with the idea paying every month since, but continued to freeload. This time, you got me.
I have saved quite a bit since canceling The Intercept after you and Ryan left, and this little entry clinched me as a paid subscriber. Damn, I appreciated reading the manifesto, but that account of the FBI visit sealed it. What a cost of doing business! Props.
I can't promise to keep paying indefinitely, but you have continually proven that you deserve it. Keep it up. If my crypto "investments" pay off I'll go for a lifetime subscription. 😁
All that said, I would really be interested in reading an account that answers all eleven of those questions. Not this year or next year, or this decade. But as you approach Bob Woodward's age, remember that history deserves a full accounting of this shit. Even if you arrange to publish it posthumously.
That includes your full corpus. Journalistic freedom and anonymity of sources is essential to freedom. Full disclosure and transparency are, in the very-long run, essential to truth. I hope that you have the incredible wisdom to navigate the balance between the demands of journalism with those of the witness to history.
I appreciate that knowing the leaker of Watergate as Deep Throat was necessary. But I also appreciate now knowing that Mark Felt was the source.
Wow, that's literally insane. You're a journalist. Would the NYT divulge their sources? Would they be expected to? Such bullshit coming from this administration though their alphabet of 'law enforcers'. At least they didn't cover their faces (I assume) shackle you & ship you out to some version of Gitmo for just doing your work. Glad you're OK & that you have an able attorney. Stay safe. And free.
The FBI hasn’t found the person who planted bombs at the RNC and DNC in January, 2021, but they have time to harass someone for committing the crime of - journalism. Keep up the good work, Ken. You’re clearly a giant thorn in their side. Actually I think they’re jealous of you. 🤣
I feel like trolling the FBI should become a monthly segment your Substack. Dropping in the agent’s vm to your lawyer is fantastic! Great job as usual!
Thank you for continuing with fierce journalism - while it angers and saddens me you had to go through this - and that THIS is how far we have fallen - so many of us appreciate you and your continued resistance to fear tactics.
Glad you are mentally prepared and have a good lawyer. Publishing this manifesto should not require such precautions. Every outlet that says it tries to publish significant and important information like this should have already jumped all over this scoop. But, outside of independent journalism, this is no longer routine.
First of all, thank you. Thank you for doing what you do, and for being one of the rare few that does what you do.
Second--referring to "what you do"--I remember what I was taught in J-school (University of Florida, class of '81): one tells the truth; one treats everything as suspicious, and all powerful individuals and groups as adversarial and/or as potentially having ulterior motives; one remembers one's role in our society, which is to inform the body public to the best of one's ability, not to manipulate them by appealing to their lowest instincts. One doesn't give in to, cozy up to, or alternately, go easy on said powerful. And one definitely doesn't back down to threats from them.
Sounds like someone I'm proud to subscribe to. Bravo.
Well if anything, the constant harassment from the FBI (and your vilification on Twitter for IDK pointing out geriatric politicians I guess) has finally made me upgrade to a paid membership.

“We would appreciate [it] if this list of questions was kept between you and your client,” the email read."

I absolutely love how you won't be intimidated. ❤️🔥
Hey Kenny, you should leave an anonymous tip to the feds that for the low low price of $100/year they can get the answer to all 11 questions and more.
C'mon, what data broker is offering a better deal than that?

Sure that sounds like fun, but kidding with those folks is dangerous. Stay close to Beth and less said the better.
Feeling like I’m subscribed to a reality serial thriller….thank you for the journalistic integrity we sorely lack, and need more than ever.

Do not become the story. It's a trap.
Damn, I’m glad they finally left you alone. I imagine dealing with feds can’t be much fun 😕
It's a pain but I'll be fine.
as a former development director for an NPR station, I'm glad to see you've got the balls that NPR is letting atrophy

Holy shit, Ken. Well done.

Sounds like something from, not only another century, but another planet. Such a pity.
