I knew an engineer who took a job in Saudi Arabia at an oil field in the 70's who was convinced that being there as an American could hasten the End. I'm convinced that the rise of the extreme right wing in this country is at least partly due to the loss of Unions. Blue collar workers felt abandoned by the Democratic Party (they were) and they chose the other option. We are also suffering from a very lopsided media: Most radio stations are controlled by the right wing. There are very few Progressive radio stations. Blue collar workers often work with the radio on, and this propaganda is pumped in their ears at work, in the car. It's like you can't escape it.
