There is NO 'right' or 'left' in the USA. IF you had leftists in power you would have: Free healthcare/schooling/free meals for kids/old peoples homes in every town etcetera!
the eternal dilemma: when someone says "Left" do the mean "actually Left" or do they mean "corporate Democrats"?
If you use "Left" as it most commonly used in American media, it means "the corporate assholes" and less "the christofascist assholes".
But yes, both ruling parties have realized that not being able to gatekeep what is discussed nationally, the Overton Window has slid open to include options that will not benefit them financially. Both parties will always work together to maintain the income inequality upon which they feed.
When I was living in Vancouver, WA, and my two adult children were living in another state, we used Discord to have a movie night once a month where we would chat and catch up before the movie and then chat about the movie afterwards. Geez Ken, when do you think the thought police will start infiltrating Substack comments? This response by the right is a crack down on steroids.
As someone who has used Discord for various innocent communities I agree that it’s pretty mainstream, but as a dad of kid who was lured from meeting someone on Roblox, to Discord where my kid got scammed into providing his Roblox credentials for the scammer to then transact on the credit card on file on Roblox, I’m not sure what makes it such the scammers’ community system of trust ;). I’m not freaked out by that platform per se, but am curious about why it seems to offer the environment for scammers to pull off their scam, away from the other platforms.
"The Atlanta man was confused and disturbed, he told me, that the police learned so quickly of his purchase and also knew of his private Discord post."
He's also probably a guy who thinks Edward Snowden is a criminal and Julian Assange should be assassinated.
Uh oh. I set up a Discord server for my Wordscapes team of old people, the Owl Family.
On a serious note, people on Twitter, including a notable radio personality, have taken aim at a teacher at my great nieces’ elementary school in a Pittsburgh suburb. Her crime: She called Kirk a racist provocateur on her FB page, but she said that he should not have been killed. @LibsOfTikTok discovered her post, and the attack began. Colin Dunlap, a talk radio host on KDKA, has slimed my town as a bunch of liberal nuts (nothing could be further from the truth) and is trying to get this woman fired. So, this has become personal for me.
9/11 gave us the Patriot Act; Kirk’s murder has given the government and so-called ordinary citizens an excuse to increase surveillance. During my days as an anti-Vietnam protester in the 1960s, I discovered that my phone was being tapped. Am I being monitored now?
Congressman Clay Higgins vowed to strip drivers licenses of all those who celebrated Charlie's death.
The right is going after free speech.
Woke right meet woke left.
Meanwhile, freedom of speech is battered by both sides.

I’m sure Substack is already being monitored. These people in the “government” are disgusting hypocrites.
Who cares!
I'm pretty sure that my wife and mother-in-law use Discord for knitting groups, lol. Dangerous, subversive knitting groups.

Well, consider yourself very lucky. Kids have committed suicide thanks to Discord/Roblox scammers.
Was there a reason you posted this twice?
Maybe it’s just that good. 😻
Such excellent reporting. Thank you for your thoughtful work. Helps so much.
