I'll believe this when I see an actual, lasting ceasefire. And I very much doubt I'll see that.

And why wouldn't be for real? It would be disingenuous to go public if both sides weren't in agreement, and as you said in the article it was verified by other sources. SecState Rubio would be fired if he gave him unverified talking points...assuming it is Rubio or his people in Qatar involved in the negotiations.

Russia's offer to provide Iran with nuclear weapons if needed might have something to do with this. I hope Russia (and China) monitor this whole thing closely.

Iran has some powerful military allies... and yes, Putin said he would protect Iran.

But Netanyahu has been calling for the destruction of Iran for decades, and he's spewing the same bs he did with Iraq, everything that comes out of Israel is a lie, I just don't see Netanyahu backing down from this, or there ever being peace in the mid east. There was peace there until Israel was created, since that time there's been nothing but problems. Israel is an aggressive state and the problem. Time will tell.

46 years of Mah bar America and Mah bar Israel don't convince you? Israel read Mein Kamph, have you? The Hamas charter? The Koran?

Iran has -0- reason to hate us so much. They're an unstable government. You can be weak and stable like the Bahamas, or strong and stable, like the PRC, but Iran fits neither criteria. Mossadegh? We nuked japan. twice. We flattened Germany, and now they're our buddies. Putin is too tied up in Ukraine. PRC knows fragile governments, see e.g., the Qing Dynasty 1912. The theocracy are done. Persians deserve better.

I know the Israeli opposition was trying to throw Netanyahu out of office, just as he attacked Iran (and maybe WHY he attacked Iran at that time).

Iran has been the adult in the room, in responding with restraint-- by at least alerting to the coming attack and trying to minimize casualties.

If Israel throws out Netanyahu, there may be some hope from there -- though the polls show much too much public support in Israel both for attacking Iran and for continuing to destroy Gaza. (And then there is the US to consider....)

I feel like I'm losing my mind. The Guardian has this from 19:15 EDT:

"Amid the announcement of a ceasefire, Israel’s Defence Forces have posted an evacuation warning for parts of the Iranian capital, Tehran, writing on X:

“Urgent warning to all individuals located in the Mehran and District 6 areas in Tehran, based on the red-colored designated area on the attached map.

“The Israeli army, as it has been operating across Iran in recent days to target the military infrastructure of the Iranian regime, will be active in these areas.”

“Dear citizens, for your safety and well-being, we kindly request that you immediately evacuate the aforementioned designated areas on the map and avoid approaching them in the coming hours.”"

But when I look at the IDF's feed on X, there's no such message posted.

What the eff do you know about the "middle class" in the US if you're truly "rich"?

Answer: Fuck all. It ain't the massively dwindled "middle class" who is suffering, either, under long-term neoliberal Trump-Obama-Bush economic policy, lady. Kindly STFU and take your warmongering and off-topic partisan rah rah cheerleading somewhere else.

If the Iranians haven't learned enough about Israeli and American perfidy and treachery by now, they are not as smart as I gave them credit for. Israel NEVER honors ceasefires. The only calculus I can think of for why Iran might have accepted - and I do not think their military capabilities have been sufficiently degraded as of yet - is that they hope that once Bibi is forced to stop his war with Iran, he will finally suffer the political fallout that has been building for years, and more recently with corruption charges and the hostage situation in Gaza. Bibi will be a big loser politically as a result of this "12 day war." But will it be enough to dethrone him? Not if history is any guide.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi

@araghchi

"As Iran has repeatedly made clear: Israel launched war on Iran, not the other way around.

"As of now, there is NO "agreement" on any ceasefire or cessation of military operations. However, provided that the Israeli regime stops its illegal aggression against the Iranian people no later than 4 am Tehran time, we have no intention to continue our response afterwards.

"The final decision on the cessation of our military operations will be made later."
