I would look towards Israel to see if we're going to war. (Not in a conspiracist sense - I think Trump is doing this for a foreign policy 'win' himself) but in a practical sense. I am not even going to WASTE MY TIME tomorrow night in watching the SOTU. I WILL view Abagail Spanberger's response on YouTube Wednesday. Nobody has any great love for the religio-fascists who rule Iran. But if Iraq taught us anything twenty years ago, it is to avoid that kind of stupidity again. Apparently, Republicans NEVER LEARN. If Trump thinks that a new war will boost his super-sagging popularity, he is living in la-la-land.
You didn't mention MSM giving a reason for war. There isn't any beyond the wishes of a country with 1/10th the population of Iran (1/40th that of the US) that cannot do the heavy and widespread destruction in Iran that it has wanted the US to do for it for decades: Israel, the malign parasite that the US cannot detach but who has every Zionist in America employed to lecture us on how antisemitism is a problem.

I’ve been a state of anxiety about this for the last several months. You’re totally correct that we’re already at war except this time it seems Iran knows it must resist & will respond. I can’t believe we’re so stupid to back ourselves into a corner like this. All those ships have moved away from the Strait if Hormuz because they know they’re just giant, slow moving targets, with exhausted crews & needing repairs & our planes are staying out of range as well. The ridiculous justifications for this folly change according to whom trump talked to last. Iran is zero threat to us or to anyone else in the region except for Israel, the only entity pushing for this. We are literally threatening Iran for Israel. It also has nothing to do with enrichment—it is about the hypersonic missiles that Iran will use to defend itself that it has buried in mountains. During the “12 day war” Iran did so much damage to Israel they had to beg trump for a ceasefire & this time they’re going to really hit them because they already pierced the “Iron Dome”. Iran has security enhancements from China & Russia we don’t know about. We can bomb but Iran will respond with the missiles, drones, water-borne drones, etc. We will not knock out Iran because all they have to do is survive. This is pure folly & only chaos will ensue which is probably the point.
